SLDC ARTISTS TO OPEN THE WOMAD FESTIVAL ON 25 JULY
 

July 2019: SLDC artists are collaborating with the inimitable Bollywood Brass Band to open at the prestigious Womad Festival later this month. Kathak dancer Jaina Modasia and musician Unnati Dasgupta will be taking to the stage on behalf of the Company, performing a variety of styles of song and dance while accompanied by the talented musicians of BBB. 

The artists hey have spent a week training school children in Malmesbury who will join them in the performance on the Open Air Main stage at the Festival.

SONIA CONDUCTS SCHOOL WORKSHOPS FOR NEW PRODUCTION 'BREAKING GROUND' 
 

July 2019: This month saw Artistic Director Sonia Chandaria Tillu conducting Kathak dance workshop and sharing extracts from her new production 'Breaking ground' at a number of schools in the Midlands.

 

Most of the students from Rushey Mead School (Leicester), King Edwards VI School and King Edward VI High School for Girls (Birmingham) who took part in the activities were new to the dance form. They all enjoyed their day of hearing about the ancient Indian art form, giving feedback on the sharing and also having a go at some of the dance moves!

SLDC PERFORMS AT 'TEA WITH A TWIST'

June 2019:  On Sunday 9th June 2019. SLDC performed and delivered an interactive experience of Kathak dance at the June edition of 'Tea with a Twist' at MAC Birmingham.

Tea with a Twist, offered as part of the Celebrating Age programme at MAC, is a contemporary version of an afternoon tea party. Open to over 65s to come along for a free afternoon tea of sandwiches and cakes plus live performance. Each Tea with a Twist showcases different genres of live art including jazz, comedy and dance. The event is run by MAC in partnership with Contact the Elderly charity.

NEW SLDC PRODUCTION TO PREMIERE AT OXFORD'S RENOWNED OFFBEAT FESTIVAL THIS JUNE

April 2019: SLDC will be premiering a brand new production at Oxford's Offbeat festival on 21 June 2019. Eleven. twelve, Thirteen is an exciting collaboration between six of UK's finest British Asian talent across classical Indian dance, spoken word poetry and Western & British Asian music.

Exploring the significance of numbers in our lives, the production will look at how numbers, usually only associated with black and white facts, can narrate their own, equally expressive and evocative fiction in a multitude of colours .

SLDC RECEIVES ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND FUNDING FOR NEW PRODUCTION

April 2019:  SLDC is delighted to have received an Arts Council England grant for its upcoming project Breaking Ground, commissioned by Sampad

The funding will support the development of this ambitious solo production about migration and its impact on culture and identity across generations. The initial R&D phase of the project has been awarded a grant from the British Council new Art new Audiences scheme. SLDC is also grateful for the support of its partners in this project including PhizzicalAakash Odedra Company, Spark Arts, Two Brown Girls and Pagrav Dance Company.
